The oven is in!

A couple of weeks back we *finally* put our new oven in the kitchen. It’s not perfect yet, it needs moving up a little, but at least we can use it :) Other progress is coming along in the kitchen, too. I’ll put together a bigger photo post of the kitchen after this weekend where you’ll see the sink and the fully orange walls.

Bedroom progress

Whilst we were away, our workforce put the new carpets down in the bedrooms. The carpets are pretty plain, due to the fact that we wanted to keep the rooms bright and not fussy with permanent decor (read, we’re hanging lots of art), also because the house has bled us dry we managed to get two fabulous roll ends for the small sum of £180. These have covered both the bedrooms with extra bits left over (which may or may not go into the small room, depending on how much may be left from the stair carpet).

Complete with ikea kitchen drawers. Also, that cabinet used to be in our lounge, but I think the wood colour goes really well with the blue, don’t you?

light fitting

New landing light fitting. It’s bigger than we thought, and quite fussy – I like it though!

bathroom bath

New bath! With tap, wow, taps are expensive! We bought the bathroom tiles this weekend, too. But that’s an exciting secret :)

The house – Week 3

Posted by kim on March 16th, 2009

Last week we got an epic lot of stuff done in the house. Most of the electrics were finished off, all of the walls were fully stripped and all the old skirting boards were taken off. Over this weekend I spent hours filling holes in (what will be) mine and Adam’s room, Adam sanded down the walls in there and my Dad was fitting skirting boards in the living room. Unfortunately Adam’s Dad found that two of the joists (the big long bits of wood that run from one side of the room to the other and hold up the floorboards) had rotted in the kitchen, meaning they had to be taken out. Wood arrived today for them to be replaced. It’s not so much a biggy, just quite an annoying thing to have happened. Work started today on the central heating. We’re having a new boiler placed in a new position, alongside two new radiators downstairs (kitchen and living room) and a small radiator in the bathroom. There’s lots of new piping going in too, and some other piping being rerouted and shifted around to better positions. The huge hole in the living room where the fire will live has been made even bigger, too! We bought our fire the other day (well, it’s a house warming presents from my Mum and Dad)…

Oo and as a note, we’re having that same green as the colour in our living room. We’ve also just ordered a black hearth and back panel for the fire area. The surround will be build by my dad, and we’ll either have plain wood (to match the sanded and laquered flooring) or plain white.

POS House: The before shots

Well, we got the keys to our new house today! Adam took my camera with him this morning to get some photos of how it looked to start. Since then my Dad, Adam and his brother have been working all day ripping the place out. There aren’t many carpets left, the horrid polystyrene ceiling tiles have gone from most rooms, a random fire has been taken out of the kitchen (along with half of the cabinets) and the master bedroom has had this giant inbuilt wardrobe monstrosity taken out. All in all a damn good days work from the guys! I went over after work and ripped a few chunks of wallpaper off the walls in the kitchen :)

My Dad’s heading to the tip with a tonne of the stuff tomorrow, too, but hopefully the rest of the kitchen should be out and maybe even the old skirting boards off. Adam and I will be headed to ikea tomorrow to make final arrangments for our kitchen and (fingers crossed!) get a completed design and perhaps buy it :O Madness, it’s gunna be the best kitchen ever, orange walls eeee!
