UP!

Disney Pixar's UP

We finally got to see Up! at the weekend, in super-hyper-real 3D (Adam put on two pairs of 3D glasses and the world started to bend funny, so he took one pair off). I still can’t believe how long we had to wait for it compared to the US, that was pretty ridiculous.

As usual, pixar did not disappoint, the story is amazingly cute and funny – with the additional ‘real-life’ sadness about it – and the animation was better than ever! I’m not sure about the 3D though, it wasn’t exactly punch-you-in-the-face 3D.. and I didn’t like the fact that my local cinema charged an absurd amount for the privilege (£17.50 for me and the boy, and he’s on student rates too! whut! that’s London prices, most definitely not Yorkshire prices!). I was especially in love with the detailing on the sepia photographs that were in the Adventure Book, looks like they took a loads of care making those look exactly like a real aged photo.. but an aged photo of a pixar scene… ah!

This week I’m looking forward to Fantastic Mr Fox, yes yes. We’re all set to watch Royal Tenenbaums this evening, too. In other news, I’m getting a compost bin, jealous?

Not-So-Small Disneyland HK

Disneyland Hong Kong expansion

So, remember a few weeks ago when I went to Disneyland Hong Kong and said it was super tiny? Well, this week plans have been unveiled that will see the park undergo a $468million expansion. Epic!

They’re going to increase the size by 23% adding 4 new lands and around 30 new attractions (there’s currently only around 15-20!). Apparently some of the attractions will be brand new, ones that aren’t in any other disney parks. They’re also aiming for mainland China custom, too, and because a lot of Disney stuff isn’t hugely popular over there, they’re going to stick around a few of the more famous stories.

Disneyland Hong Kong expansion

At the moment the park isn’t doing aswell as it should be, and visitor numbers are constantly dropping. I really hope that this cash injection manages to put some life back in the place, because it’s a super cute park with an amazing transport system (hello, where else has special trains to get there??) and so much potential!

Petite Disneyland

Wow, we just got back from an epic days adventure in Disneyland HK! It’s the smallest disneyland we’ve ever been to, but we still managed to have so much fun. Like the rest of the week, it was an incredibly hot day, so we ended up riding space mountain 3 times and going on random kid’s rides like Winnie the Pooh. The space mountain there is much better than the others, too, because it’s pretty new so goes super fast and has bunches of sharp turns without making you feel like you’re gunna fall out. I have photos, which I’ll post tomorrow, but I just wanted to say Hello.

Ohhh and I bought a Minnie Mouse oven mitt and matching apron! Also, the High School Musical show made an amazing effort at defeating the language barrier, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better english/cantonese mash-up, although they did overuse the word ‘Awesome!’

Weekly Yeti!

yetihills Weekly Yeti!

On the theme of Disney, this week’s Yeti comes to you from the Expedition Everest ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Here he is:

exevv 300x234 Weekly Yeti!

From wikipedia…

The complex yeti figure has the following technical details

  • The yeti’s “skin” measures 1,000 square feet (93 m2), and is held in place by 1,000 snaps and 250 zippers.
  • The yeti’s movement is controlled by 19 actuators.
  • The yeti can move five feet horizontally, and two feet vertically.
  • The yeti is 22 feet (6.7 m) tall.

Recently the Yeti figure has stopped moving, and is now in what is referred to as “B Mode,” where the yeti does not move, but a strobe effect is cast on it to give the impression that the figure was still moving. It is unknown at the time whether or not the yeti will be fixed.

So there ya go.
