During a bored half hour today I designed the label for our christmas preserve mission. Here is it…

Font is Sketched Rockwell (a free font from dafont), very Juno don’t you think? Anyway, I like it. I’ll be jigging it around for the labels that will go on our sweet goods and home brew stuff :D Making stuff is FUN kids!

So, I do a lot of print screening, grabbing etc to get bits from one place to another quickly (it’s super good for getting css rendering quirks from diff browsers logged!). On my old mac that I didn’t really use for work I never had the need to do such things. Well, now that I do, I’m amazed at the capabilities of the grab function!

Here’s a handy reference list of the keyboard shortcuts to use when you want to grab things

  • Shift-cmd-3 will capture the whole screen to a file on your desktop
  • Shift-cmd-4 will bring up a crosshair where you can select an area of your screen to grab and save to a file on your desktop.
  • Shift-cmd-4, then space, then click a window will capture that window as a file to your desktop
  • Holding down ctrl with any of the above will save it to your clipboard, handy for taking things to fireworks/photoshop

Super cool.

Real life photoshop

So I saw this on, I think, either boing boing or geekologie last week. It’s super great, dontcha think? Got me thinking how much I’ve neglected working with real world supplies lately. I had a kinda strange transition from my fine art degree (where I spent the majority of time time printing t-shirts and making creatures) to my web development/design job that I do during the day now. Damn, I really need to start creating outside of CS programs!

In other news, this week has been mainly about putting offers on tall, kooky terraced houses and being shit scared at the prospect of spending Hundreds-of-Thousands-of-Pounds. Where ever we move to though, my studio will be bigger and better and able to house more supplies and goodies than ever before… and then I shall reform to the creator that I once was!!11one!!

If you’re anything like me you’ll love this super simple site. copypastecharacter.com has a front page spread of your highly used, easily forgotten symbols. No longer will you have to route in the footers of random websites to find the trademark symbol, or have to google ’sideways 8 infinity thingy’.
