Weekly Good Stuff

Posted by kim on November 27th, 2009

Sorry, this is turning into some kinda bi-weekly (di-weekly?) good stuff lately… blame Christmas shoppers and their insistence of buying from finestimaginary.com (oh hai, shameless plug… 20% off with code SNOWFLAKE).

1235 store3 Weekly Good Stuff

  • Let’s kick this off with a fabulous t-shirt sale at Threadless! they already started their $12 Christmas sale, but they’ve knocked all shirts down to $9 for black friday! Woop! I bought the one above.

jodrell bank

  • Last Saturday I went to jodrell bank with Adam for Jodcast Live (the jodcast is a monthly podcast all about astronomy, if you’re into that shit you should definitely give it a listen)! Adam did the sound effects, they were lovely. The majority of the day was actually spent driving around Cheshire… also, I drove to Macclesfield, what a stupid place.. how many roundabouts does one place need? Jesus.
  • This is the thing that made me laugh the most this week, remember the guy who wanted to pay his bill with a 7 legged spider drawing? That was nothing compared to this. Amazing.

pancakes and franks

  • I’m in love with these super colourful prints from Pancakes & Franks. Really, really nice, check out their site to see the others in the series.

Lily cole, lady gaga, hansel and gretel photoshoot

  • Lily Cole and Lady Gaga (and some guy) in vogues Hansel and Gretel photoshoot by Annie Liebovitz. More here. Speaking of Lady Gaga, I’ve been obsessed with her new video and album this week. Love her!

Philip Toledano photography

  • Great set of photographs from Philip Toledano, Hope and Fear. Some of them are pretty freaky, like the giant boob person.
  • Moustache dog toy, Adam, can I have a puppy please?
  • Speaking of cats, Pumpkin & Bramble had their lady-parts ripped away the other day. They’ve now got giant bald patches on one side, poor kittens. Pumpkin has already managed to rip out her stitch too, nice.

Moustache mug

  • Moustache mug, lovely!
  • Craft magazine has had a few posts about machine knitting lately, I’ve always wanted to try it out.I might invest in a machine next winter, knit up some great things for the store – what do you think?
  • And to finish, you should definitely check out the Luxirare blog if you don’t already. I’m not sure if she’s a genius or has way too much spare time, this is one of my favourite posts on how to make parfait (seriously, you NEED to check this out, it’s not an every day recipe at all).

Weekly good stuff, all y’all!!

Posted by kim on November 13th, 2009

Oh hi, I didn’t do one last week because I’m a slacker. SO let’s catch up…

Don't make me get all iambic on Y'all!

  • This will be the best video you see all month. Without a doubt.

4031091011 f08c0a8dae Weekly good stuff, all yall!!

boxed and labelled

  • A few books for you this week, the first is this great one on modern packaging design. The preserves packaging is quite apt, I’ll be making some new labels for mine and Adam’s christmas kitchen delights soon!
  • D&D style resume, guaranteed to get you the job!
  • How to make your own Thai green curry paste, definitely something I’ll be having a go at in the future!
  • I can’t get a decent photo of these hardbacks, and the amazon one has that silly ‘look inside’ thing on. Meh. In Waterstones the other day, I spotted these super pretty hardback versions of His Dark Materials. With my dire financials atm I can’t really quantify dropping £60 on them, alas! Amazon has them for the measly sum of £11 each rather than £20. They’ve most definitely been added to my wishlist. This is the Northern Lights copy.
  • OMFG how good are google docs? I have actually become obsessed with them this week. We’ve got a spreadsheet on the go with our ‘christmas extravaganza holiday freetime’ days planned out. One days I’ll screen grab so that you can all be privy to how odd my household is. ‘oh hello Mr.Snowman how the devil are you?

trek shoes

  • Star trek kicks? OH HELL YEAH. If any of my american readers fancy, you know, sending me some, that would be dandy. I’m going to ask the parents to bring me some back from florida. ‘Oh Hi, florida? SEND ME STAR TREK SHOES k thx’
  • Speaking of my parents and their Floridian holiday, I’ve been skyping with my mum… best chat message ever ‘hot topic’s full of that actor you like, dad says he is a vampire’. Honestly, I’m not a twihard. Nor am I a furry, don’t ask me why I’m on a furry fandom list on twitter.

treklamp Weekly good stuff, all yall!!

  • Oh, I definitely would. I’m not sure where it would go, though. Trek light fitting! I’m excited for the Huddersfield christmas lights switch on, I think that Jean Luc Picard himself is doing the honors! Either him, or Professor Xavier.
  • Tenuous link (they were both in Hamlet), but are you psyched for the new Dr. Who?! I AM I AM!

Photo 15

  • And finally, seeing as there’s not many photos in the post, have a Me, with my new fringe. Here I am being delightful.

Have good weekends! What are you guys up to? I’m going to dash around Manchester perhaps wearing my new boots, and then I’m going to drink wine! FUN. TIMES.

Aw, Bonbi Forest was one of the first stores to stock FinestImaginary items (over a year ago now! wow!). Earlier this month Bonbi’s owner, Lee May, announced that the Emporium as we know it would be closing it’s doors at the end of August. It’s all for a good reason, though, the Bonbi Forest brand is doing so well that there’s just not enough hours in the day for Lee May to dedicate to the Emporium whilst spending time on her own work. I wish Bonbi Forest the best of luck, and I’ll be sad to see the emporium go!

Head over to Bonbi Forest now to take advantage of a 15% discount offer, there are tonnes of fabulous items from some great artists and designers on there!

Weekly Good Stuff!

Did you enter the giveaway yet? It’s not too taxing :) Go enter.

How was your week? Mine was so-so, between dodging the rain and wrestling kittens off the curtains, it was pretty run of the mill. I did start reading the Harry Potter series again, though, which is always uplifting. So, I missed a weekly good stuff last week for some random reason, here’s a combined list of last week’s and this week’s stuff :D

  • The amazingly lovely work of Courtney Brims. Pretty girls with animals, fairy tales and woodland scenes. It’s all I’m about lately! See more at her website. pretty.
  • We saw Moon last weekend, you should really check it out. And did you know the director is David Bowie’s son? He goes by his regular old name nowadays, though.

Fantabulous Illustration by Tom Whalen

I came across the modern vintage illustrations by Tom Whalen today, and have pretty much fallen in love. He recreates classic film posters, super hero characters and cult characters in his block colour style with strong lines and a bright vintage look. I’m totally going to email this guy and see if I can get some prints. Amazing.
