Those Super Sexed Vampire Books

Posted by kim on February 9th, 2010

I finished reading book 9 of the Sookie Stackhouse books last night (true blood), seems I’d gotten quite obsessed with finishing them seeing as I only started book 1 over Christmas (I picked up the super cheap 8 book box set on Amazon). They were so much fun! No great work of literature, certainly not akin to Anne Rice or any other vampire classics, but the characters are enjoyable, the stories a little silly, and the books totally easy to read. I can say without any hint of doubt that they’re 1billionmillion% nicer than that silly teen vampire series. Yes, Stephanie Meyer, I’m looking at your plagiaristic self. Ho-hum. You should read them though, they’re supreme respite.

Onwards.. I’m restarting book 1 of the Wheel of Time, that ridiculously long series with far too many characters. After reading book 1 I shall then be reading Northern Lights again (my pretty copy), then maybe book 2 of WoT… we’ll see.

What are you reading now?

Weekly good stuff, all y’all!!

Posted by kim on November 13th, 2009

Oh hi, I didn’t do one last week because I’m a slacker. SO let’s catch up…

Don't make me get all iambic on Y'all!

  • This will be the best video you see all month. Without a doubt.

4031091011 f08c0a8dae Weekly good stuff, all yall!!

boxed and labelled

  • A few books for you this week, the first is this great one on modern packaging design. The preserves packaging is quite apt, I’ll be making some new labels for mine and Adam’s christmas kitchen delights soon!
  • D&D style resume, guaranteed to get you the job!
  • How to make your own Thai green curry paste, definitely something I’ll be having a go at in the future!
  • I can’t get a decent photo of these hardbacks, and the amazon one has that silly ‘look inside’ thing on. Meh. In Waterstones the other day, I spotted these super pretty hardback versions of His Dark Materials. With my dire financials atm I can’t really quantify dropping £60 on them, alas! Amazon has them for the measly sum of £11 each rather than £20. They’ve most definitely been added to my wishlist. This is the Northern Lights copy.
  • OMFG how good are google docs? I have actually become obsessed with them this week. We’ve got a spreadsheet on the go with our ‘christmas extravaganza holiday freetime’ days planned out. One days I’ll screen grab so that you can all be privy to how odd my household is. ‘oh hello Mr.Snowman how the devil are you?

trek shoes

  • Star trek kicks? OH HELL YEAH. If any of my american readers fancy, you know, sending me some, that would be dandy. I’m going to ask the parents to bring me some back from florida. ‘Oh Hi, florida? SEND ME STAR TREK SHOES k thx’
  • Speaking of my parents and their Floridian holiday, I’ve been skyping with my mum… best chat message ever ‘hot topic’s full of that actor you like, dad says he is a vampire’. Honestly, I’m not a twihard. Nor am I a furry, don’t ask me why I’m on a furry fandom list on twitter.

treklamp Weekly good stuff, all yall!!

  • Oh, I definitely would. I’m not sure where it would go, though. Trek light fitting! I’m excited for the Huddersfield christmas lights switch on, I think that Jean Luc Picard himself is doing the honors! Either him, or Professor Xavier.
  • Tenuous link (they were both in Hamlet), but are you psyched for the new Dr. Who?! I AM I AM!

Photo 15

  • And finally, seeing as there’s not many photos in the post, have a Me, with my new fringe. Here I am being delightful.

Have good weekends! What are you guys up to? I’m going to dash around Manchester perhaps wearing my new boots, and then I’m going to drink wine! FUN. TIMES.

Weekly Good Stuff

Posted by kim on September 25th, 2009

Oh woe is me, I’m not feeling so good today. Alas, I had a delicimost drink this morning to make me feel better, white chocolate mint mocha with tiny marshmallows… how fluffy. It was amazing, though.

  • Another eye watering treat from Tim Walker and Tim Burton… amazing.
  • Started life drawing again this week, my god I’m so rusty… also I didn’t draw the wrinkled peen.
  • Also started Spanish class, Hola!
  • Diablo Cody, of Juno writing fame, will be screen writing the new Sweet Valley High movie – great news! Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint at box office as much as Jennifers Body.

How were your weeks? Anything fun planned for the weekend?

Weekly Good Stuff… Bumper Edition!

Posted by kim on June 12th, 2009

Seeing as I didn’t do a good stuff post last week (‘cos of kitten preparation more than anything), I thought I’d bring you a bit of a extended edition this week. Enjoy!

The high line park new york

  • Next time I’m in New York I really want to check out this new park that’s just opened. The High Line was a disused overhead rail section in Manhattan (Chelsea area) that some clever people have turned into a public park! What an amazing concept!!

Chanel pumps

  • These chanel pumps are hot. Not too sure about the mustard colour, though…

  • I’m not a poetry reader, but I could really get into it if the book covers looked like this… I know, shh. Books/Covers & all that.

Typography mobiles

  • Woah… this stuff is almost enough to give you a typogasm! Lovely looking things.

condiment gun

  • Now that bbq season is upon us, I have GOT to get me know of these babies!

squishi print shop

squishi print shop

  • Nice to see some good T-shirts from the UK. Sad to see a print shop :( I miss printing :(… soon, soon.
  • Nice little write up about my favourite city, Manchester, on design*sponge. It’s fun to read about some of my favourite spots! Ah, Manchester. I lived there for my 3 years at University and Adam still studies there, but I miss it :*(

UK Definitive Circulating Coinage - New Reverse Designs

  • The D&AD awards were held last night, you can see the full list of winners here. My favourites include the poke balloonacy balloon race (which hiphop took part in back in the day!) and the royal mint coins (above).

Currently Reading

My reading has taken a blow lately with all the confusion of house moving and camping out, I really haven’t had to time to lose myself in a book. Before all this upheaval started I’d spend most of my lunch hour in the library reading, however I  now spend them trawling shops looking for  new plates, curtains, kitchen ware, blahdeblah (not that I *mind* shopping, though). I’ve been rereading the Sandman comics because they’re quick, and it’s always soothing to read something you’ve read before. The time has come, however, to get back into ‘real’ books… I have a schedule to meet! I picked this out of one of the packed up boxes last night.

confessions of an ugly stepsister

I’ve enjoyed all of Gregory Maguire’s books (most of you will know him as the guy that wrote Wicked), my favourite probably being Mirror Mirror (a retelling of snow white), so I’m really looking forward to reading this one. I picked it up for the pricely sum of £2 from that super cheap bookstore I’ve mentioned before (it’s brand new, too!). I’ll let you know how it goes.
