When I originally made my 27 things list I had just completed my first 5km race. I was all super psyched about carrying on my training, upping my game, and running a 10km race a few months later.
Yeah, that didn’t happen. I don’t know what went wrong really, I just kinda stopped training, and I really regret it.
It would appear that even though I’ve been making a few, er, not so regular gym visits, I’m unsurprisingly out of shape. I mean, I get exercise, but no pavement pounding cardio that I’d grown to enjoy! This 10km race isn’t going to run itself though, so I really need to get back into it.
The Plan
Today I took the first step in my new training, I downloaded the couch to 5k app for the iPhone and did the first training session. In all I ran/walked 2.5km and was knackered. How embarassing! I used to be able to run 5km no problem!
I figure working my way up to the 5km mark is a perfect start, the couch to 5k app has 3 sessions a week for 9 weeks that takes you right up to running 5k without stopping.
After I’ve conquered this I’ll probably download a 10k app and continue from there. I’ll keep you posted…
Ps. If you’re interested in running then you should really be reading Bangsandabun, that girl’s all about championing the benefits and awesomeness of using your legs to move fast!

You’ve made a start and that’s the main thing. Just keep on running… and trash those trainers they look too new!
They’re old!!! I did all my 5km training in them last year too!!
Working towards goals and for reasons eg. races works best sometimes. A reason means it’s more worthwhile. Good luck in getting your routine up and running again (!)
I really wish I could enjoy running! Good work and keep at it! x
Congratulations. I just did my first 5k. You’ll be great!
