Bedroom progress

Posted by kim on May 27th, 2009

Whilst we were away, our workforce put the new carpets down in the bedrooms. The carpets are pretty plain, due to the fact that we wanted to keep the rooms bright and not fussy with permanent decor (read, we’re hanging lots of art), also because the house has bled us dry we managed to get two fabulous roll ends for the small sum of £180. These have covered both the bedrooms with extra bits left over (which may or may not go into the small room, depending on how much may be left from the stair carpet).

Complete with ikea kitchen drawers. Also, that cabinet used to be in our lounge, but I think the wood colour goes really well with the blue, don’t you?

light fitting

New landing light fitting. It’s bigger than we thought, and quite fussy – I like it though!

bathroom bath

New bath! With tap, wow, taps are expensive! We bought the bathroom tiles this weekend, too. But that’s an exciting secret :)

Kitchen progress

Just a quick post on this bank holiday eve, we started painting the kitchen over the weekend, and today I finally got to see the orange! Check it out…

The bottom photo is more true to colour, it’s super nice and bright. Can’t wait until we have actual cabinets in there! Also, we move in on friday :D

Floor sanding & some colours

Posted by kim on April 27th, 2009

First thing Saturday morning, Adam headed out and rented us a barrel sander & edge sander. The floorboards in our livingroom were pretty decent quality, so instead of cladding them in laminate we decided to strip them and varnish them. The results so far are ace, the wood’s a lovely antique pine so it’s come up as a honey colour full of knots and ripples.  We’ll be varnishing it some time soon :)

Also, you can see the green (dulux taragon glory 5) we’ve picked for the lounge in the photos above, and here are the colours we’ve picked in the two bedrooms (ocean clear b&q colours, and dulux amethyst falls 2… my small studio room is still stuffed full of things, but that’s gunna be yellow!).

Bank Holiday Weekend House Progress

Posted by kim on April 23rd, 2009

Wow, so this is only about a week late :/ My bad. Last weekend we got TONNES done in the house (it was a bank holiday so we had friday/saturday/sunday/monday to ACHIEVE). By tonnes I mean the majority of the rooms wallpapered and painted =) It’s actually starting to resemble a use right now, which is epic. We also felled the last of the gross tree’s in the garden (now, now, before you say anything, we’ll be replacing them at some point with easier to control fruit trees). Without further ado, have some photos…

new toilet

ZOMG new toilet! We had to go on an epic journey for this toilet after B&Q in Huddersfield LIED to us about them having some in stock, losers. Anyway, we finally got one and now it works so we can pee and all is good. It’s the only thing in the bathroom right now, seeing as ikea didn’t have out sink cabinet and the people we bought the bath off might actually be fraudsters. Fun times!

House Rennovation: Plastering progress

Posted by kim on April 14th, 2009

Last weekend work started on the plastering in the house. It started of as one of the hugest nightmares in the history of the world, ever. We had to move all the furniture that we’re storing there out into the garden/driveway. Jesus. Lugging sofas downstairs is NOT fun. SO anyway, we ended up with two double beds, a sofa and a bunch of bookcases stuck out on the drive way and back lawn for most of the day, and then started trying to store it in the garage, the greenhouse… hell, anywhere!

Gah! anyway, the plasterers got a bunch of work done in their first day, and on Tuesday they completely finished! And, wow, it’s like a completely different house. The kitchen has a whole new ceiling, and the wall where the old electricity meter was (that’s been moved outside now!) is super flat :D:D Can’t wait to start putting the kitchen in over the bank holiday weekend!

The hallway and stairs have been plastered too, and if you’ve never touched freshly dried plaster then add it to your ‘must touch’ list because it’s the smoothest thing known to man. Honestly, plastering must be a most satisfying job in the world… making something so FLAT!

Strange things exist in our garden at the moment, including old boilers, rubble and dead birds on pieces of glass. This was found in the greenhouse, on a glass shelf. Must have been there quite a while.

Big update later this week with photos of all the work we got done over the bank holiday weekend. We actually started painting walls :D! No kitchen building, yet, though.
