Pretty Dress

Since I only started wearing dresses properly about a year ago, this whole world is brand new to me! Recently, though, I’ve been on a dress-buying rampage for my holiday. I figure they’re lighter and easier to pack than most other summery clothes, and I’ve gathered around 10 suitable dresses in my case so far. I’ve also been buying a ridiculous amount of tights…!

There was one dress that’s been hiding from me, though, and that’s the one that I’ll be wearing to my friends wedding in Key West (the entire point of the trip to Florida at the end of the month). Their wedding is pastel themed, and I thought it’d be easyyyy peeeaasssy to find a lovely dress in a pastel shade. I was wrong. I found pastel tops, skirts and playsuits, but not dresses. I scoured the high street for over a month, I even ventured into stores like Monsoon & Next.. the horror! But nada, zip, zilch, nothing, the dress I wanted remained out of my grasp.

But then! JOY! I found the dress. It’s so, so pretty and it arrived today. It’s by Joules and I got it from John Lewis’ website. I ordered it in the safer size, as in, I’m either one size or another, so I ordered the larger size just in case. When I tried it on I could’ve probably gone for the size below, but meh! It leaves me room to eat more diner food in Orlando :)

I’ve also gone for some beige brogues from Kate Kanzier too. I didn’t want to take a pair of heels over there because I wanted something I could wear at other points in the holiday, and heels would kill my feet. I figure the outfit will be perfect for the setting. You’ll see.

New Specs

Okay so this post title may be a little premature, I’ve only ordered my new glasses today so it’s not so much about my actual new ones but rather about the style that I’ve chosen.

My lovely, pretty, pink Vivienne Westwood glasses are biting the dust, or rather the lenses are. The anti-glare coating has started to break down so one of my eyeballs is super strained because of a massive blurry part on the lens :/

I decided that I wanted to go for something a bit different this time and settled on a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers. I’m majorly inspired by the following photos. I’ve gone for a small frame version in dark tortoiseshell. Amazing. I’ll either look like a bug, Buddy Holly or a fucking hipster.

Anyway, I’ll show you my bug face soon. I’m also getting new lenses put in my Vivienne Westwood frames too… annnnd, I’m delving into the realms of contact lenses FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. Touching my eyeball will be weird.

And so the heel adventure begins…

Yes, my dear friends, I’ve bitten the bullet and bought some shoes that are not flat. Holy balls.

The shoes in question are actually Dr Martens Regina Boots, which are deliciously lovely indeed. They have wingtip/brogue detailing, too. Nice. The heels are 3″, which may not seem a great deal but for someone who’s used to -1″ of heel it’s quite a difference. I figured that boots are quite a good introduction to my heel adventures.

These cost £75 (from cloggs.co.uk with a discount voucher) which isn’t bad for some nice leather boots! & it means they fit nicely into my new CPW wardrobe buying habits, these are a classic design & very wearable. LET THE HEEL ADVENTURE BEGIN!

Do you wear heels?

Being born with the ability to grow boobs and other humans, I theoretically should be able to wear heels… right? It should be instinctual! I’d really like that theory to pan out one day, and on that day I would gracefully enter a room in some ridiculous-inch-high shoes that’d allow me to view the tops of heads. I’d be able to walk in them without a wobble, my legs would be lengthened & my stride defined.

Yeah, I don’t really see that day happening any time soon. It is indeed a fact that I’ve made it to my 25th year of life without stepping out with more than around 1.5inches of extra oomph on my feet. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my nikes & converse – for all their comforted colourfulness – but sometimes a girl just want something a little more elegant. Luckily my height isn’t an issue, I measure in at around 5ft8 so I don’t really need that extra couple of inches, but it would still be handy seeing as Adam is a 6ft3 giant.

Apparently it’s all about practice, but my god, where the hell do you find the time to practice wearing shoes?! Surely there are other things more worthy of practice?! Maybe it’s time I did get myself some trainer-heels, are they even a thing? they should be. A shoe that you can slowly add extra heel to whilst you teeter around the house. But again, is it worth the time?

Ho-hum, look at the pretty. Part of me looks at these shoes and my ankles cringe at impending breakage, but another part considers that leg length, height boost and overall outfit completeness. Of course there are a myriad of wonderful pumps & ballet style shoes available, and I do own several pairs of girlies albeit flat footware, part of me could even learn to forget heels ever exsisted.

…but damn, a heel would be nice.

Study Material

Wikihow: How to walk in High Heels is a good step-by-step article on how to go from flats (where I am now) to high-heels. Definitely worthy of a read.

Whilst I wish I had a closet that size (and a daddy to buy my shoes), she does give some good examples & tips on how to walk in heels, starting from a low heel and going up to a high stilleto.

Please tell me I’m not the only one with this problem?! I’ll be starting my heel-wearing journey over the next couple of weeks, I’ll document any broken bones and sore feet just for you :)
