I decided that I wanted to try my hand at quilting this year, for the one and only reason that I wanted an amazing quilt to snuggle under on the sofa (right now I’m under a spongebob duvet.. which is great! but pretty embarassing when visitors come around.. ahem).
So I’ve bought all my materials (a huge piece of wadding, the patchwork fabric, some special other bits) and I’ve gotten a rough design together…
I’m going to be chipping away at this for the next few months I think, I’m already worried about how I’m going to do the actual quilting part (I’ll definitely have to move my sewing machine into my lounge rather than in my tiny craft room), I’m tempted to go down the tying route depending on whether I can move the quilt under the sewing arm or not!

I love the chevron pattern! Making a quilt is on my list of things to do this year. I’m planning on a hexagonal/honeycomb pattern, but perhaps just squares if that proves too annoying.
Yeah, I thought the squares would be nice and easy for a first go! I’ll keep updating on the progress :)
That is going to be one badass quilt!
I undertook this sort of project last year for similar embarrassing-yet-awesome-in-it’s-way-couch-blanket reasons, but didn’t spring so far as to make a cool pattern (lazy squares and it STILL took forever, but was totally worth it).
You may be surprised how easily your machine foot goes over the batting; plus I think you can get a special quilting foot that has little springs on the bottom if your current foot isn’t having that.
Anyway, good luck! I’m really digging your blog!
Here are two corny jokes:
Q: How do you ask a dinosaur to lunch?
A: Tea, Rex?
Q: Why did the apatosaurus devour the factory?
A: Because she was a plant eater!
har har har! Ok that was super random, but there you have it! Bye!
Hah! I love the jokes :D
Ohh I do have a special quilting foot, quite excited to use it really… just worried about getting to the middle of the quilt hand having half of the quilt bunched up under the arm of the machine if you see what I mean, I’m sure I’ll trample over that bridge when I come to it, but it’s something I’ve been considering :)
